Insurance

Most of the equipment we provide is billed to your insurance — not paid out of pocket.

Bexar Care has been a Medicare-accredited home medical equipment supplier in San Antonio since 2002. Before you order anything, call us and we’ll check what your specific plan covers. There is no cost to find out.

Call (210) 614-3804 — Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm

Plans we accept

All plans accepted

  • Medicare — all plans
  • Medicaid — all plans
  • WellMed — all plans
  • Aetna — all plans

Most plans accepted

  • UnitedHealthcare (UHC)
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) — but not the “Blue”-branded plans, such as Anthem Blue and Blue Health
  • Community First Health Plans — but not their Exchange (Marketplace) plans
  • Devoted Health

Some plans accepted

  • Humana PPO — coverage varies by plan. We do not accept Humana HMO plans.

We list the exceptions because we would rather tell you now than after you have waited. If you are not sure which plan you have, your member ID card names it — read it to us over the phone and we will tell you in a minute.

Networks and plan terms change, and coverage depends on your individual policy. If your plan isn’t listed here, call us anyway — we will check it for you rather than guess.

How it works

  1. Your doctor sends us an order. Most insurance-covered equipment requires a prescription or written order from your physician. Their office can fax it to us at (210) 614-3805.
  2. We verify your benefits. We contact your plan directly to confirm what is covered, what documentation is needed, and what — if anything — you would owe.
  3. We handle the paperwork. That includes prior authorization and the medical-necessity documentation your plan requires. This is the step that most often delays equipment, and we do it for you.
  4. You collect it, or we bring it to you. Oxygen set-ups, hospital beds, electric wheelchairs and incontinence supplies are always delivered and set up in your home. General equipment is collected from our store.

Equipment commonly covered by insurance

With a doctor’s order documenting medical need, plans frequently cover:

  • Hospital beds and pressure-relief mattresses
  • Oxygen concentrators and supplies
  • CPAP and BiPAP machines, masks and replacement supplies
  • Manual wheelchairs, power wheelchairs and scooters
  • Walkers, rollators and canes
  • Tracheostomy and suction supplies

Buying without insurance

Everything we carry can be bought out of pocket. You do not need insurance to buy from us, and if your plan will not cover something, that is not the end of it — call and we will talk through the options, including less expensive alternatives that do the same job.

Two things still need paperwork no matter how you pay, because the requirement follows the equipment rather than who is paying for it:

  • Oxygen equipment requires a prescription from your doctor.
  • CPAP machines, masks and CPAP supplies require a sleep study.

That holds whether you are billing insurance or paying cash. If you already have a current prescription or a recent sleep study, bring it with you or have the office fax it to (210) 614-3805 and we can go straight to fitting you.

For physicians and referral coordinators

Fax referrals to (210) 614-3805. Please include the patient’s demographics, insurance information, the equipment requested, and chart notes supporting medical necessity. Incomplete documentation is the most common reason an order is delayed, so if you are unsure what your patient’s plan requires, call us at (210) 614-3804 before you send it.

Questions we hear often

Do I have to pay up front?

Usually not. If your plan covers the equipment and the documentation is in order, we bill your insurance directly. Any copay, deductible or coinsurance depends on your specific plan — we will tell you what to expect before you commit to anything.

Do you deliver?

For some equipment, always. Oxygen set-ups, hospital beds, electric wheelchairs and incontinence supplies are delivered and set up in your home — we are not going to ask you to collect an oxygen concentrator or a hospital bed yourself.

General equipment — walkers, canes, bath safety, CPAP supplies — is collected from our store at 7410 John Smith Dr Ste 108, Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm.

We serve Bexar County and the surrounding counties. If you are not sure whether you are in range, call (210) 614-3804 and we will tell you.

Can someone else pick it up for me?

Yes. A relative, a friend or a neighbour can collect on your behalf — you do not need to come in person. Whoever comes will need:

  • The patient’s name and date of birth
  • A form of payment, cash or card, in case anything is owed

This page is a general guide, not a guarantee of coverage. What your plan pays depends on your policy, your documentation, and medical necessity as determined by your insurer. Call us and we will verify your specific benefits at no charge.
